Aerobars

In an effort to assist you with your aerobar selection, TriVillage.com has accumulated reviews from your fellow triathletes.

Brand Name of Aerobar Type Customer Comment
Blackwell Research Performer SS Carbon Clip-on Awesome product. These aerobars are so comfortable. the wrist relief extensions allow me to stay in the aero position as long as I want with the tension relief pads. light, strong and comfy. A+++
Blackwell Research Performer SS Carbon Clip-on I received the item within a week and the Clip-on's are awesome!  Thank you
Easton Aeroforce CNT Clip-on Best made. Pricey but worth it. Perfect fit. Strong and light and comfortable. Gorgeous carbon weave.
Easton Aeroforce Mod Clip-on Great ride. As a new triathlete, I choose not to buy a time trial/tri bike. Instead I got these great clip on aerobars. They are really comfortable and the adjustability makes it possible for anyone to use them. Highly recommend these for any size person looking to make their road bike into a time trial/triathlon bike.
Easton Deltaforce AL Bullhorn Basebar Deltaforce = Very Nice. These are  very light, strong, and perfect for a lightweight start to a triathlon set up.  Unreal price for what you get and how comfortable these bars are.
Hed HED Aerobar Integrated Excellent! I love it!
Profile Design Airwing Basebar Grips for my fixie! Needed an oversized bullhorn bar set for a "street" track bike build. Perfect fit & excellent price.
Profile Design Carbon Stryke Clip-on Shave time off your bike leg!. All tri-coaches will tell you - a good set of aerobars will shave minutes off your best non-aero bike time - and these bars don't disappoint. There is a reason why they are the official bar of Ironman. Comfortable, fully adjustable, carbon-light and will even make you sexy (ok.. that last one is a bit iffy). Great product - highly recommended.
Profile Design Cobra Wing Basebar Super Comfortable. This is the most comfortable base bar I tried so far.
Profile Design Jammer GT Clip-on Not long enough. The bars aren't long enough for me to find a comfortable hand position. My hands want to be a couple of inches out from the farthest adjustment of the bar extensions. I actually returned these aerobars for ones that are more adjustable.
Profile Design Sonic CSX Clip-on The Best. I got these last year, and I love them, they are super light, and very comfortable. You just have to measure them for your size before buying them, since they are not adjustable.
Profile Design Split Second AL Integrated Split Second AL. This is not a bad product as far as I can tell (they're attached to my racer and are fine to use).  Possibly because I'm using a racer, I don't find the handle bars coming up too high as others have said.  In terms of weight etc. I'm not experienced enough to tell.
Profile Design T2 + DL Clip-on Good but ...short. Excellent quality, easy mounting, one of the lightest aerobar systems. But: it is also one of the shortest! 25 cm and not stated on the Profile Design site! The length adaptation is limited. So if you are tall and/or your arms are rather long (both valid in my case) you could find the elbow armrests not very far from your hands.
Profile Design T2 + DL Clip-on Multi-purpose. Excellent little bar specially designed for drafting races. Easy to mount, light, lots of adjusting possibilities. Good to use for small and tall people on any type of (tri)bike
Profile Design T2 + DL Clip-on Perfect. Transition easy and safe, fast and punctual delivery. Thanks.
Profile Design T2 + DL Clip-on Great aerobar for drafting races a little bit uncomfortable
Profile Design T2 Plus - S Bend Clip-on Great bars. I ride a road bike. I tried the Jammers and didn't like them. This was my second try, and I love them. They are really adjustable.
Profile Design T2 Plus - S Bend Clip-on Tri Bars. Very happy with product
Syntace Stratos Basebar Stratos 15 As Advertised but Not a "wow". I bought the syntase 15 deg. x 41 cm (M) for my Surly Steamroller.  They change the handling of the bike in a substantial positive way.  I had to angle the bars up for comfort however.  The main selling point for me was the  bars' backward first bend.  Unfortunately this angle, which I thought would be more comfortable, is quite fatiguing.  Yet, I can get a pretty aero position, and very good climbing positing, and a mostly comfortable upright position.  Overall: not for everyone but certainly a quality niche product.
VisionTech Pro Integrated Before reading on, keep in mind I'm a TRACK RIDER, not a Triathlete or Road Rider. These bars are nice and stiff and put me in a great aero position. They are comfortable and easily adjustable.  They would get five stars except for the fact that they lack a second set of end plugs [we don't use brakes or shifters on the track ;-) ] and the holes for the cables could use some plugs as well.  These are minor issues, but for a buck or two extra they could be complete for all cycling disciplines.
VisionTech Trimax Carbon Integrated Mounted on my Cervelo P3C with no spacers under the stem. Great aerobar, very comfortable, fit and finish are excellent. Plenty of adjustability of the elbow pads. Nothing can come loose or change adjustment when you hit a bump in the road. The only negative I noticed is that when out of the saddle sprinting, with your hands on the base bar, there is a lot of flex in the bar over what you would get from an aluminum base bar. But you don't spend much time there on a TT bike. I also purchased the carbon stem cap and it is a very nice touch. 5 stars!!
Zipp Vuka Clip Clip-on Very nicely made and well engineered, though they look a bit on the heavy side. Offers a lot  of adjustment and quite comfy.

Bicycle Saddles

In an effort to assist you with your saddle selection, TriVillage.com has accumulated reviews from your fellow triathletes and cyclists.

Brand Name of Saddle Description Gender Customer Comment
Blackwell Research Flow Triathlon Unisex Great TT saddle. This saddle works great for the aero position - really happy to have it!!
Blackwell Research Flow Triathlon Unisex This saddle did not work for me for long distance.   But I've had many saddle issues.  I've heard that other women have had really good luck with it.
Blackwell Research Flow Triathlon Unisex Great. Less numbness
Blackwell Research Flow Triathlon Unisex Works for me. I've only used it a few times, but so far it's been great.  Still getting some sore spots toward the front...but that may be more due to my rocking forward (rather than sitting with my "sit bones" square on the seat).  The narrow shape really does work; it doesn't put pressure on nerves and muscles because the seat fits right in it's spot.
Fizik Aliante Carbon Road Unisex saddle is light and very comfortable.  Surface is waterproof so it can be cleaned easily.
Fizik Arione Tri Ti Triathlon Unisex Great Saddle!
Fizik Vitesse HP Road, XC, Triathlon Female Ahh, comfort. The stock saddle on my bike was causing so much discomfort that I couldn't ride everyday!  I read some reviews about the Vitesse HP and thought I'd go for it - best thing I've done.  It feels great and can ride miles and miles.
ISM Adamo Racing Triathlon, Time Trial(TT) Unisex I have severe numbing problem.  Thought this would work.  Not intended for road riding.  Can see it's virtues for triathlons, but definitely not a century road ride.   Very little position options available.  Much more happy with the Terry Liberator race for my purpose.
ISM Adamo Racing Triathlon, Time Trial(TT) Unisex Hopeful! This is my 5th saddle in 7 months.  For the first time, I'm riding without extreme sit-bones pain.  I had forgotten what a pleasure riding can be!   I am very hopeful that this saddle is the one I've been searching for!
ISM Adamo Racing Triathlon, Time Trial(TT) Unisex Definitely worth the money.  No more going numb!  I did take a piece of wire and brought the nose in a bit.  now I can ride for hours in comfort!
ISM Adamo Racing Triathlon, Time Trial(TT) Unisex A rider's must!!! I came into trivillage looking for a saddle that I would be able to go on long rides without getting saddle sore. I moment I purchased the saddle, I went on a 50mile ride and on the Next day I did 113mile ride and no saddle soreness.  Yes it looks weird but its very comfortable.
ISM Adamo Racing Triathlon, Time Trial(TT) Unisex Too wide. The opening of the saddle works...but the nose of the saddle is too wide which causes the inner thigh to touch it on every rotation.  For me this caused some bruises.  After a 30 mile and 80 mile run with several adjustments I was impressed.  I also noticed that the seat leather was starting to get damaged on the nose after only two runs. I much rather go with a narrower seat.
ISM Adamo Racing Triathlon, Time Trial(TT) Unisex Mostly as advertised. ISM Adamo Race Saddle Works for me! Recently I changed my position on the bike to a more aggressive aero position.  It became apparent right away that the tri saddle I was using was not right.  I picked up the Adamo race saddle after talking to some other triathletes.  On my first long ride with the Adamo I realized I had been in the aero position for over an hour before I even though about whether I was comfortable or not.   I recommend watching the install video and reading the Online .PDF on setting this saddle up, I did and had the saddle dialed into my liking in just one ride.   One minor complaint, the logos on the nose of the saddle rub off pretty fast, leaving a shadow of what was there.
ISM Adamo Road Road, Triathlon Unisex No pain anymore. Long rides used to be a pain in the crotch for me.  Not anymore - this saddle took all - and I do mean all -the pressure off of that area.  It does take a little getting used to and you will be somewhat sore after the first few rides but in a totally different and much more tolerable place.  So worth it.  And worth it to get someone familiar with the saddle to fit it for you.
ISM Adamo Road Road, Triathlon Unisex Perfect solution. Replaced a Fizik Arione that caused severe numbness after only 20 minutes every time - but it only took one 15 mile ride to get used to the Adamo. I raced an Olympic distance tri on it today and didn't even notice the new saddle - which is just the way it should be.
ISM Adamo Typhoon Road, Triathlon, City, Off-road Unisex No more burning. Finally!  A saddle that completely eliminates pressure on the perinium.  No more rubbing, burning or numbness.  The extra padding helps ease the pressure on your sit bones and the slightly wider dimensions distribute the weight more evenly for one of the most comfortable rides I have ever experienced.  Though my bones still get sore on a 3 hour ride, by taking away most of the other pain this is as good as it gets...and it is good.
ISM ISM Touring Cruiser, Comfort Unisex Best seat I've ridden on
Koobi Au Enduro Road Unisex Long search over! I have purchased and ridden dozens of saddles trying to find one that is consistently comfortable for my daily commute to work. I ride a road bike and need a saddle that is firm but not too firm.....and a saddle that has a more flat shape seems to suit me best. On top of all of those needs is the need for a wider rear section to fit my sit bones. I finally tried the Koobi after a long search for the perfect saddle...the Koobi is the closest thing to perfect I have ever ridden on!
Koobi PRS Enduro Road, Off-road, Cycolocross Triathlon Male What a relief. I've only ridden this saddle for two weeks and it already blows away my Terry Saddle. I read reviews before I bought mine that said "what saddle" and " my boys are happy"...All true... Now when I ride on a bumpy road, I feel my feet buzz. I never did before because my butt was screaming to loud. This seat is great. Buy one.
Koobi PRS Alpha Road, Triathlon Male So far this saddle has been great. Fits me really well and has relieved saddle induced numbness and pain. With the PRS shock absorbers this saddle really smoothes out the high frequency bumps. Highly recommend it and the price is not to bad.
Profile Design Tri-Stryke Ti Triathlon Unisex Good buy. This saddle is the no-brainer choice for anyone looking for a saddle upgrade who does triathlons.  Light, comfortable, and all the bells and whistles a triathlete could want.
Profile Design Tri-Stryke Ti Triathlon Unisex Excellent. I changed the Fizik Arione Tri for Profile Tri-Stryke and I'm sure I did the right thing. Profile is much more comfortable and also light weight. I recommend!!!
Profile Design Tri-Stryke Ti Triathlon Unisex Great saddle. So far I have only ridden a few shortish ride in this saddle, very comfortable and plush when sliding forward on the nose. The wind vent feature is also very, very comfortable let me say.
Selle Italia Lady Sport Gel Road, Off-road, Freeride Female Okay but not perfect...I used to have a Men's Selle Italia seat but as I increased my training and hours on the bike, I was getting more prone to saddle sores and tenderness.  When my old seat wore out I decided to try a women's saddle.  I really liked it initially.  It is a nice width and I had no discomfort whatsoever on the sitbones.  But it seems like the cutout is either in the wrong place or the ridges are too stiff for me.  I am still playing with the position of the seat and maybe that will help.
Selle San Marco Aspide Black AnGel Triathlon Unisex Squeaks. This is a comfortable saddle, however the design is flawed in that the front makes a terrible squeak.  Drives me nuts
Selle San Marco Aspide Glamour K Arrowhead Gel Road, Triathlon, MTB Female Great fit. This saddle is the perfect fit.  Flat but flexes in the rear with a nice narrow nose and cutout.  This saddle is completely comfortable, no matter what your position on the bike.
Selle San Marco Aspide Triathlon Gel Triathlon Unisex Good saddle.  Not too wide in the front and gives some padding.

Bicycle Tires

Brand Name of Tire Type Use Customer Comment
Continental Competition Tubular Road Racing I could not get these Continental Competition 28"x22mm black race tires anywhere in Canada but I found them at TriVillage-Thank-you!!!
Continental Competition Tubular Road Racing best tire period.
Continental Grand Prix 4 Season Clincher Road Racing Excellent tire.  I have now shod three of my bikes with these tires.  The are responsive and wear well.  I have only had two flats--both pinch.  My other two bikes have tubulars.  These are not tubulars and do not ride like tubulars, however, they are the best clinchers I have found.
Continental Grand Prix 4000 Clincher Road Racing Lightweight and fast , Have hit a few sharp things that have cut but never cut all the way thorugh..the kelvar lining works
Continental Grand Prix 4000 Clincher Road Racing Grand Prix 4000 Why use any other tire? This was a replacement for my old Grand Prix 4000 which lasted me for ~900 miles of really aggressive riding.  Practically puncture resistant, only had 2 flats due to a slice in the side wall caused by a bad driver causing me to swerve into the curb. Overall great tire Highly recommended.
Continental Grand Prix 4000 Clincher Road Racing Good so far. I've used the GP 3000's for a lot of miles with nary a puncture.  The 4000 rates a much higher pressure (165), but I'm sticking with 120.  Only about 100 mi. so far, but it's holding air just fine.  The seem strong and light.
Michelin Pro3 Race Clincher Road Racing, Triathlon, Time Trials(TT) Excellent
Tufo Elite Tubular Clincher Road Racing 1. Faster, 2. Handling quicker, 3.  Slightly rougher ride at 115 psi
Tufo Jet Pro Tubular Triathlon, Time Trials(TT) Excellent tire. With the TUFO-goo, provides good wearability.
Tufo Jet Pro Tubular Triathlon, Time Trials(TT) Normally a great tire, TriVillage must have a sour batch. I was stranded with a flat in Big Sur on the PCH without cell phone use.
Tufo Jet Special Tubular Clincher Road Racing, Triathlon, Time Trials(TT) great compromise. I've been toying around with moving to Tubulars, but I'm really put off by the whole gluing thing so I decided to try these out on a whim. I love them. You can blow these suckers up to > 180 PSI so you get the feel of tubulars, they are lighter than clinchers and sealing a puncture couldn't be easier. check em out for sure.....
Tufo Jet Special Tubular Road Racing, Triathlon, Time Trials(TT) product no good
Tufo S22 Tubular Road Training good product
Tufo S22 Tubular Road Training Great Tire! I've been riding sewups for about 35 years, and these are far and away the best I've used for recreational or training rides.  They hold air for a long time unlike old fashioned tubulars. In addition, the removable valve stem makes it easy to use them with a sealant. I've had great luck with these tires.
Vittoria Corsa Evo CX Tubular Road Racing Good racing tubular. This is the first time I've purchased the Corsa Evo CX tubular tires.  They are perfectly round and even, and were easy to mount.  They have a good, smooth road feel and low rolling resistance.  They may not be as bomb-proof as heavier slower rolling tires, but they are great for racing.
Vittoria Open Corsa Evo CX Clincher Road Racing These tires are one of the very best clincher tires available anywhere.  They are built just like Vittoria's excellent Corsa CX tubulars.  Both light and supple.  The high thread count and kevlar make them very resistant to flats.  I have had 5 of the same tire previously and have only had one flat that entire time.  They generally wear out before they puncture.  Of the top tires ridden in the Tour de France this is one of the few also available in 650c.
Vittoria Rally Tubular Road Training Great Deal. Don't let the price tag fool you. Although the rallys are not as supple as higher end tubulars, they offer a smoother and more durable ride than many high priced clincher tires. Great for training and for first time tubular users.
Vredestein Fortezza Tricomp Clincher Road Racing Best Tires on the market today! Brilliant tires, strong kevlar support which means less flats, and high PSI (160) makes these tires standout from the rest. Quite expensive but worth it in the long run.

Cycling Helmets

In an effort to assist you with your bicycle helmet selection, TriVillage.com has accumulated reviews from your fellow triathletes and cyclists.

Brand Name of Helmet Description Gender Customer Comment
Bell Sweep Road, MTB Unisex Really worth the cost. You know I was always so reluctant to spend so much on a helmet but you know in the end I think it is really worth. The Comfort and lightness of this helmet make it worth every cent and knowing I am protected in case of an accident is even better.
Giro Advantage 2 Time Trial(TT) Unisex excellent helmets I recommend
Giro Advantage 2 Time Trial(TT) Unisex I bought this helmet for a buddy as a gift.  He likes it so much he bought me one to return the favor!  Haven't used it yet, but can't wait!
Giro Advantage 2 Time Trial(TT) Unisex GREAT
Giro Advantage 2 Time Trial(TT) Unisex Love this helmet for races!
Giro Advantage 2 Time Trial(TT) Unisex Great helmet...fits great and does the job.  As well, where the ear covers meet the main part of the helmet...those could be made a little sturdier as I made a small tear in one of them taking it off in a hurry.  Overall...excellent!
Giro Advantage 2 Time Trial(TT) Unisex NDS said it perfect...great helmet, I get no issues with heat during longer races, it keeps my head cool while cutting through the air.  Practice getting the helmet on and off in a hurry...Very Fast Helmet!!!
Giro Atmos Road, Cyclocross, XC Unisex Very light, comfortable and cool looking helmet.  It's best feature is the air flow vents - keeps your head cool even in the brutal August heat.  Easy to adjust as well - great helmet, well worth the price
Giro Atmos Road, Cyclocross, XC Unisex Great fit. Best helmet I have had to date. Comfortable fit.
Giro Atmos Road, Cyclocross, XC Unisex Great Helmet. Good fit for me.  I have a small head.  Light and my head is able to breathe for those hot rides.
Giro Atmos Road, Cyclocross, XC Unisex A very good lightweight helmet that not only looks and feels good, but also allows a decent amount of ventilation when riding on hot days as I have done recently here in our harsh South Australian summer. Previously and recently worn by leading Pro Cycling team, it normally retails for $AUD 450 +, at the Trivillage price of $USD 104 + shipping, an absolute steal !!!! A must have for any cycling enthusiast.
Giro Monza Road Unisex I've had my 2006 Monza for a couple of weeks now and have been very happy with it.  It fits very well and does not obstruct my vision while keeping my head low during rides.  I couldn't see spending the extra $20 for a 2007 or 2008.  They seem very similar in design when comparing with pictures.  That is, with the exception of color scheme.  Luckily I happen to like the color scheme that I bought better than that of the later 2007 - 2008 models.  Lucky me.
Giro Monza Road Unisex Best deal I could find. Great helmet, best price on the net and trust me I searched.
Lazer O2 RD Road Unisex Comfort Plus. Have now used this in both training and triathlon racing and found the ease of adjusting the helmet a huge plus. I wear a scull cap in training but don't have the time to put this on in a race so any adjustment needed is easily done on the go. The style, weight and overall look of the helmet is great and comfort is at the turn of a dial. Very happy with my purchase and the service provided by Trivillage. Thanks
Lazer Tardiz Time Trial(TT) Unisex Great Helmet. I bought this helmet just when it launched, taking the risk of not having any references or previous reviews to guide me.  But it ended up being a great buy! Super comfortable, easier to put on, and adjust how tight it sits on your head, than any other TT helmet thanks to the Rollsys Retention System.  Your head stays very cool because of its many vents, and you can take advantage of Aquavent during a very long ride or a hot day! I definitely recommend this helmet!
Limar 911 Road, MTB Unisex I am very satisfied with the helmet. Lightweight, good fitting system and looks great. Trivillage was a breeze to order from and delivery time was prompt and flawless.
Limar Chrono Time Trial(TT) Unisex Great product and prompt shipment.
Louis Garneau Chrono Time Trial(TT) Unisex Very Good Performance For Time Trial
Louis Garneau Chrono Time Trial(TT) Unisex Perfect. It's a very good product
Louis Garneau Chrono Time Trial(TT) Unisex Very pleased with this helmet, as I feel it will be ideal for time trial events on the track. Quality and fit are very satisfactory but it would have been nice if they could have included a storage bag.
Louis Garneau Chrono Time Trial(TT) Unisex Great Aero Helmet. This is my 1st aero helmet.  It is very comfortable and has very easy adjustability.  I think it will definitely help cut time off the bike portion of the triathlon.  Can't wait to use it in a race. Not too expensive at all.
Louis Garneau Chrono Time Trial(TT) Unisex If you don't want to go with the full blown aero lid, try this one.  Doesn't look quite as goofy (imo) and is very reasonably priced. Sunglasses are easily worn, and it won't catch your ears.  I wore it in the Santa Barbar Triathlon last week and loved it.
Louis Garneau Exo-Nerve Road Unisex Great helmet, fits nice, looks great.
Louis Garneau Oz-zy Road Unisex A little uncomfortable. The helmet is light and several vents which help in the heat.  The fit is a little odd though.
Louis Garneau Rocket Time Trial(TT) Unisex nice helmet, highly recommended
Louis Garneau Rocket Time Trial(TT) Unisex Great Price and Product and Great Customer Service.  Thanks!

Cycling Jerseys

In an effort to assist you with your cycling jersey selection, TriVillage.com has accumulated cycling jersey reviews from your fellow cyclists.

Brand Name of Cycling Jersey Customer Comment
Louis Garneau Beeze Sleeveless - Women's Runs a little small. I ended up having to return this item.  I like my jerseys to fit a little loose and this was very tight. I typically wear an XL sometimes a Large.
Louis Garneau Carbon Ion Great for hot weather. The jersey material feels much lighter and thinner than most other jerseys (castelli, demarchi, pearl izumi, nike, etc), but it's not fragile, doesn't develop pulls and while riding in 90 degree + temps, it was definitely a lot cooler and not completely soaked w/ sweat like the other jerseys I own. When comparing it to other jerseys designed for extreme temps, such as the castelli superleggera, this one is more durable, works very well and will save you a bunch of money!
Louis Garneau Carbon Ion Sleeveless Louis Garneau Men's Carbon Ion Sleeveless Jersey are by far the best tri jersey I own.
Louis Garneau Mistral Sleeveless Great sport clothing. Great product, light weight, and very breathable. Runs a tad small, so if you don't like it tight, get the next size up.
Louis Garneau Pro Carbon Sleeveless - Women's Light & Airy. I LOVE this jersey. It's light and airy, making it very cool and easy to wear. The only thing I would change are the pockets at the back which are slanted; I kept feeling the need to check my stuff was still in 'em! Other than that, a very stylish and comfortable jersey.
Pearl Izumi Gavia Vector Very happy.  Nicely done.
Pearl Izumi Superstar Cami - Women's This is a nice top and very comfortable to wear.  However, the rear pocket is VERY small.  Barely large enough to hold my cell phone
World Jerseys Yokohama Mama - Women's Love it! I originally ordered a large in this because there were no mediums available. When it arrived, it was huge through the body. I returned it and ordered a small which fit me like a glove. I love the light weight fabric and the design is awesome. I get many compliments.

Cycling Shoes

Brand Name of Cycling Shoe Use Gender Customer Comment
Adidas adiStar Super Pro Classic Road Unisex finally, a lace up shoe, made of leather, that is toeclip and standard cleat compatible. Thank you adidas. Keep them coming.
Adidas Race Road Road Unisex Very good fit. Little tight in the instep, but fits well without any direct pressure points. The fast fit closure might be a little short for those with a high arch.
Carnac SFT1 Triathlon Unisex I was surprised with the size difference between the 43 and 42.5 shoe.  The quality is good.
Carnac TRS9 Triathlon Unisex Great shoes. I love the shoes and the price! The shoes arrived before I expected them! Ill buy from trivillage first every time!
Louis Garneau Carbon Tri Air Triathlon Unisex great shoe my tri shoe of choice
Louis Garneau Carbon Tri Air Triathlon Unisex These shoes are super stiff and comfortable, coming from a pair of Shimano Tr30's I guess its not really a far comparison but that's all I have to go off. The toe box is on the larger size in this shoe as well. I love these shoes.
Louis Garneau Carbon Tri Air Triathlon Unisex Shoe is very stiff, lightweight and has easy entry with secure closure.
Louis Garneau Carbon Tri Air Triathlon Unisex Great tri shoes.  Solid/rigid carbon sole that is awesome! Comfortable and wide shoe (rare to the cycling world) that is perfect for those long rides/ races.
Louis Garneau Carbon Tri Air Triathlon Unisex Very good the best tri shoe I have got so light and tight
Louis Garneau Tri Air 2 Triathlon Unisex These shoes are fantastic! Designed very well to wick away water and keep your feet cool.
Louis Garneau Tri Air 2 Triathlon Unisex Good product. For the price I think is the best option. I'm so happy with the shoes and they are so comfortable.
Louis Garneau Tri Air Compo Triathlon Unisex Very comfortable shoe. I tried on a lot of tri shoes while shopping around and these were the most comfortable (with and without socks) and easy to get in and out of.
Louis Garneau Tri Air Compo Triathlon Unisex These are great shoes if you are looking for something with a wider toebox.  They are nice and stiff.  The only reason I gave my review a 4 out of 5 is not for the shoes, but the sizing chart put out by Louis Garneau.  It is way off.  According to their size chart I should wear a 44, but had to buy a 46 to actually fit.  Other than that I would really recommend these shoes.
Louis Garneau Tri Air Compo Triathlon Unisex These shoes are great with the 2 insoles. 1 for hot weather, one for cold. They breathe GREAT and are comfy as any I have ever worn. easy to get into, and the single velcro strap cinches tight across the entire foot with no hot spots. were my feet made just for them or are they just great shoes? either way, I love them!
Louis Garneau Tri Air Compo Triathlon Unisex Shipment arrived quickly and in perfect condition.
Louis Garneau Tri Air Compo Triathlon Unisex Good shoe, Bad Sizing. Shoe is stiff and offers lots of ventilation.  Be careful of sizing, shoes run very small--I would estimate 1-2 sizes smaller than other brands which accounts for the middle of the road score.
Louis Garneau Tri Air Compo Triathlon Unisex Meets Expectations. light, breathable, & comfy.  Exactly what I was expecting.
Louis Garneau Tri Air Compo Triathlon Unisex Great cycling shoe for triathlon. Super quick transitions and super easy to slip into while on the go. I'll never use another cycling shoe again these are the best!
Louis Garneau Tri Air Compo Triathlon Unisex Perfect! Definitely go 1 size larger. I did not expect the 2 sets of inserts to come with the shoe - one set that is solid to keep your feet warmer and 1 set with holes to allow air flow from the vents on the bottom of the shoes.
Louis Garneau Tri Air Triathlon Unisex Terrific shoe! This shoe is perfect for triathlon - loop on back of heel, one velcro strap, and breathes well.
Louis Garneau Tri Air Triathlon Unisex this shoe is a killer deal for the money, @ $99 you can't find a better quality shoe with as many features.  The two insoles, cool/hot weather, help out and it was very airy, good air circulation is a must!  This has to be the best shoe without paying the extra $$ for carbon sole, I still get much more power transfer then my previous shoes!  Easy in, and easy out as long as you put some talcum powder to soak in moister.  The single strap is super nice opening away from the bike, only thing is that when strap is pulled all the way tight, for some like myself the strap rubs, sometimes might catch on your crank arm then get caught in un velcro, but usually once you get going it sets in fine!  A+++++ shoe
Louis Garneau Tri Speed Triathlon Men Good tri shoes !!!
Pearl Izumi Tri R3 Triathlon Men Very good service from Trivillage, Product perfect for my needs…Good value for price...
Pearl Izumi X-Alp Enduro MTB Men Astonishing support and comfort. I've used conventional toe clips for the past 30 years.  These are my second foray into clipless.  The first were a pair of shoes from Lake, which were acceptable but got awfully sweaty.  The new Pearl Izumi are a whole other order of magnitude when it comes to comfort, fit and support.  I'm a year-round commuter, and I swear I cut 4 minutes off my usual half-hour ride this morning (though I'm not sure if that's because of the shoes' performance or my exuberance at wearing them).  Anyway, superlative product, I'm happy to recommend them wholeheartedly and without reservation.
Pearl Izumi X-Alp Enduro MTB Men Recommended. Can't believe I spend the last few years riding without spd.  These were better than I remember spds being. Good buy!
Pearl Izumi Tri Fly II Carbon Triathlon Unisex Very easy to wear, breathable, no flex in Shoe, Made my transition time improve.  A great Buy
Pearl Izumi Tri Fly II Carbon Triathlon Unisex Best Value on the Market! PI Try Fly II lived up to all my expectations w/ carbon fiber sole stiffness, lite weight and ease of entry both on & off.  At first was surprised to find no tongue to the shoe but considering its weight savings a simple trade-off.
Pearl Izumi Tri Fly II Carbon Triathlon Unisex Great Value! Actually wore the shoes right out of the box for a 1/2 Ironman. Very comfortable for the race and I love training in them now. Great value!
Pearl Izumi Tri Fly II Carbon Triathlon Unisex Poorly put together. Had a broken input for the clips and the stitching began undone after one ride
Pearl Izumi Tri Fly III Carbon Triathlon Unisex Nice. Shoes are very lightweight. I use them with speedplay pedals and they work great.
Pearl Izumi Tri Fly III Carbon Triathlon Unisex Great Shoe. Light weight and comfortable.
Pearl Izumi Tri Fly III Triathlon Men Uncomfortable. What is doesn't show in the picture is that the middle strip has no material so your foot is open to the air. While this alone is ok, that bottom velcro strap is pretty sharp and cuts into the top of your foot when putting the shoe on. Not good if you need a quick transition to the bike in a race.
Pearl Izumi Tri Fly Triathlon Men Great tri shoe. This is a very comfortable tri shoe.  I used to wear the Sidi tri shoe and the comfort level of the Pearls are hands down much better.
Pearl Izumi Tri Fly Triathlon Men The sizing on these shoes run rather small, probably about 1 full size.  I would suggest ordering 1/2 or 1 full size larger.  Otherwise it seems a well made shoe.
Pearl Izumi Tri R2 Triathlon Men Too wide. Shoes are for very wide feet, and need a second strap over the forefoot.
Pearl Izumi Tri Fly II - Women's Triathlon Women These shoes are ok so far. Worn on one ride of about 15 miles. they are sized a little large so order a size up and make sure to check the size chart on the site. overall I like them so far.
Pearl Izumi Tri Fly II - Women's Triathlon Women Awkward design. These shoes are light but stiff and I feel like they give good power; but the strap tongues face toward the bike instead of away from it and tend to hit the frame.
Shimano SH-TR30 Triathlon Unisex The shoe is great. Comfortable, snug fit. Very sturdy. Easy on/off and great foot breathability
Shimano SH-TR31 Triathlon Unisex Very comfortable and breathable!
Shimano SH-TR50 Triathlon Unisex Fast. awesome tri shoe's that are light, comfortable and extremely easy and fast to get in and out of
Shimano SH-TR70 Triathlon Unisex Best Tri shoes I've ever worn...unbelievable comfort but super rigid upper and outsole.  Definitely 5 stars
Shimano SH-WM40 Multisport: Commuting, Recreational, Road, Off-road Women Nice average shoes. The pros of this shoe is that it's lightweight, breathable, easy to walk in (once you get used to the extra height of the last), stylish, and reasonably price.  The only con I've found so far is that there's pretty much no arch support.  I invested in some Superfeet insoles and that fixed the problem.
Sidi Dominator 5 - Women's MTB Women Good shoe but not solution to prayers. The shoe that arrived was a mesh model, and not the full Lorica model shown in the photo.  It is a nice shoe but the cleats built into the sole are pretty high and interfered with the cleats that are supposed to clip into the pedals.  I had to put a stint into the sole to raise the pedal cleats so they would engage.
Sidi Dominator 5 - Women's MTB Women Best mtb shoe. I have a pair going on 4 years. They hold up with little care. Very comfortable and the stiff sole provides great performance. I won't wear any other brand.
Sidi Dominator 5 - Women's MTB Women I purchased these shoes for my wife and she loves them.  I would also like to thank the support staff that assisted me in finding the correct size.  Everything and everyone has lived up to my satisfaction.
Sidi G6.6 Carbon Road Men Got everything alright, thanks a lot!! Great shoes by the way.
Sidi G6.6 Carbon - Women's Road Women The Best. Wow, what great shoes, I have been using Sidi mens shoes for 4 years and been pretty happy with them.  I finally found a pair of these little pearls in a 43(same length as the mens) but much narrower.  They are STIFF and comfortable.  A much better wedding anniversary present than jewelry.
Sidi Genius 5 Pro Carbon Mega Road Men Great Road Shoe for Wide Feet. Good, solid shoe for those with wide feet.  Comfortable and stiff enough (with adapters and Speedplay cleats and pedals) for me at 245 lbs.  Four stars instead of five because the insoles need to go directly in the trash and you will want to put in your own decent insoles.  Otherwise, a good shoe.
Sidi T-1 Lorica - Women's Triathlon Women Great shoe. Really like this Sidi shoe. Not keen on the bells and whistles on some of their models, so this two strap model is perfect for me. For those of us with thinner feet, Sidi provides an amazing fit. I always buy a half size up - I am a size 8 shoe, but wear a Sidi 40.
Sidi T-1 Lorica - Women's Triathlon Women This is a very comfortable shoe.  It is a good design too. It practically opens up by its self when the straps are pulled and you lift your foot.  Translates to faster transition if you are taking your feet out of shoes while still on the bike.  Yes that takes practice but the shoes say fast to me!
Sidi T-1 Lorica - Women's Triathlon Women These shoes were a good buy!!! They are a bit flashy in colour, but the velcro straps are great for quick transitions and allow for a wider foot.
Sidi T-1.5 HT Carbon Lorica Triathlon Men The good old Sidi. I got this shoes because I'm a Sidi user. They never let me down, as I expected, they fit just perfect on my feet. Very comfortable but to tell you the truth I would rather to pull the velcro straps from the "classic" side like most of the normal road shoes.
Sidi T-2 Triathlon MeMen I was very impressed with the way this shoe fit.  My foot is 46 1/2 and just a little wider than most and this shoe fit perfectly.  Nice and snug and very comfortable.  In practicing my transitions with this shoe I have noticed it to be very simple.  The shoe is light weight and has a pretty stiff sole (which I prefer). In my search for a tri shoe, I found it very difficult to find what I was looking for.  I could not find a shoe that fit correctly and a style that I liked and I went to many different stores throughout the metro Atlanta area and North Florida.  So when I say I ordered a pair of shoes online without trying them on or site unseen you can  understand my frustration. Customer service was excellent and very knowledgeable.  Trivillage assured me that if this shoe did not fit I could return it. I would definitely recommend this shoe, as well as trivillage.
Sidi T-2 Carbon - Women's Triathlon Women Great fit!  I love them!  So much more comfortable than any other brand of cycling shoe.
Sidi T-2.6 Carbon Triathlon Men These shoes are terrific!  Very lightweight (all carbon sole), e-z on and off. Great looking.
Sidi T-2.6 Carbon Triathlon Men Satisfied Customer. Shoe is perfect for my need.
Sidi T-2.6 Carbon Triathlon Men Got everything alright, thanks a lot!! Great shoes by the way.
Sidi T-2.6 Carbonspan> Triathlon Men ExExcellent Shoes
Sidi Zeta Mega Road Men Great product. These shoes are all they are advertised to be. For a wide foot this is the ticket. I have a 4E and these shoes fit like they were custom made.
Sidi Zeta Mega Road Men Great shoes. Best pair of cycle shoes I've worn.  Great vendor gonna use them for all my cycling needs.

Cycling Shorts

In an effort to assist you with your cycling short selection, TriVillage.com has accumulated cycling short reviews from your fellow cyclists.

Brand Name of Cycling Short Description Customer Comment
De Soto 400 Mile Bike Short Short Great Shorts. Very comfortable shorts with unbelievable padding.
De Soto 400 Mile Bike Short - Women's Short The best cycling shorts! I have tried many cycling shorts and bought these on the recommendation of someone I ride with when I told her about my comfort problems.  With other shorts I could only ride 15 to 20 miles before I became so uncomfortable I had to stop.  While I have no plans to ride 400 miles in a few days, these are the only shorts I wear anymore!
De Soto 400 Mile Bike Short - Women's Short Not for me. Run very small and there are no pockets.  I had hoped to use these for a tri, but just not quite right.
Louis Garneau Airstream Bib Bib Short Best Shorts! These are the most comfortable bike shorts I've ever owned.  I've been through many pairs and I will stick with the LG Airstream going forward - well worth the price
Louis Garneau Alveo Shorts Short Excellent, extremely comfortable and long wearing shorts, though the original Alveo is no longer available. The Alveo 2 is the same short but with a different, also excellent pad. The outside pocket is great for carrying electrolytes or other small items.
Louis Garneau Ergo Sensor 2 Shorts Short Have used them 4x's like the feel thus far No complaints, comfortable true to size. Would buy again and recommend.
Louis Garneau Ergo Sensor Bib Bib Short Comfortable. Will wait to see how durable they are.
Pearl Izumi Microsensor 3D Pro Short - Women's Short I like the way they fit but the seams rub to the point of bleeding.
Pearl Izumi Quest Short Short Feel Great. 75 mile ride and they still felt very comfortable.
Pearl Izumi Quest Short - Women's Short Great Shorts. These shorts are the best shorts for touring.  The pad is the most comfortable pad I have ever worn and the length of the short is just perfect.  Highly recommended for long weekend rides and touring.
Pearl Izumi Short Attack Short - Women's Short Great comfortable short with shorter inseam than the standard shorts.
Pearl Izumi Slice Versa Short Short liner fit fine, shorts too small
Pearl Izumi Sugar Short - Women's Short Good Short. I love the look of the short.  They look great on.  They are very comfortable too.  The longest I have ridden in them is for 18 miles and they felt great.  I would definitely recommend them.
Pearl Izumi Vertex Microsensor Bib Short Bib Short Great bib shorts. So I got a great deal off trivillage so I figured if give them a try. Amazingly comfortable and took away all numbness to my crotch. I also had a pretty big crash last week, landed on my side. Ended up tearing my jersey to bits (as well as any exposed skin) but the shorts look like they didn't touch the ground (and oh boy they did!) For the price, you cant beat these!
Zoot Sports CYCLEfit 5" Spin Short - Women's Short Perfect bike/run short. Love these shorts because they don't have too think of a chamois and they don't have a tight elastic band on the short so there's not squished sausage thing going on.
Zoot Sports CYCLEfit Classic 6" Short - Women's Short OK short. The light-weight material of the short makes them very desirable!  The leg elastic is no too tight (as some are WAY too tight).  HOWEVER, the seat pad (chami) is shaped a bit odd in the back - the pad shape dips down in the center creating a pocket for the nose of the seat to get hung in while returning to the saddle after a standing climb.  If the pad shape was a continuous arc, I think this would be alleviated.

Cycling Tights

In an effort to assist you with your cycling tight selection, TriVillage.com has accumulated cycling tight reviews from your fellow cyclists.

Brand Name of Cycling Tight Customer Comment
Louis Garneau Classic Chamois Tights these are very warm and keep your legs going
Louis Garneau Oslo Chamois Tights comfortable, although the fit through the chamois area seems a bit loose
Louis Garneau Oslo Chamois Tights good but not as good as I expected in cold weather.  need a base layer or I freeze!
Louis Garneau Thermo Stopzone - Women's Stopzone Tights Help Miami Girl in Cold Weather. I have only ever cycled in Miami-strength cold weather, so I was a bit anxious about trying winter riding in Cincinnati...but these stopzone tights made riding in 28 degrees completely comfortable for my legs (if only my feet could say the same).  I even got compliments on the sharp-looking reflective stripes (I ride in the mornings while it is dark the entire ride).  For a more comfortable ride, wear some lycra shorts underneath but you can definitely get away without wearing them for at least an hour and a half.  Definitely worth the money!
Pearl Izumi AmFib excellent riding tights
Pearl Izumi AmFib Bike tights are a good price, not too tight, a little warm for fall in Iowa, but will be great in the winter time.
Pearl Izumi Slice ThermaFleece Excellent tight. These tights fit well, just like my PI shorts, and have the same chamois, which is a tad thick but still unobtrusive enough.  They fit great, and warm well even when wet.
Pearl Izumi Therma Fleece - Women's Best cycling pants money can buy
SheBeest Shindigger - Women's Love the cycling tights. I use them for spin class and they are great. Just the right amount of padding. The only thing I like to see is a drawstring on the top of the pants. Otherwise they are great.

Drink Holders

In an effort to assist you in finding a hydration solution that fits your needs, TriVillage.com has accumulated drink holder reviews from your fellow cyclists and triathletes.

Brand Name of Product Description Customer Comment
Minoura Double Cage Saddle Mount Water bottle cage holder Fits perfect. I have Selle SMP saddle.  None of the hydration system fits on my saddle but Minoura double cage fits perfect
Minoura Double Cage Saddle Mount Water bottle cage holder Perfect Fit. Light weight, easy installation!  Perfect cage holder for expanding fluid capacity for those really long rides.  Also able to mount CO2 cartridge system on the other stem.  Got on all our bikes.
Profile Design Aero Drink Bracket Aerobar water bottle mount Excellent!!!...I recommend this item in special when your aero bars are too wide...
Profile Design Aero Drink Bracket Aerobar water bottle mount Overly complicated. Although it fit between my aerobars perfectly, the instructions where near-useless.  The bottle rattles as I ride and the pour-through cap on top falls out if you go over the tiniest bump.  It's a good idea, but a poor design. You'll end up doing a little tweeking to get it to work well for you.
Profile Design Aero Drink Bracket Aerobar water bottle mount Disappointed 2. Instructions were poor. Pictures were also pretty bad, and one of the velcro strips that came with the package was backwards so it did not work.
Profile Design Aero Drink Bracket Aerobar water bottle mount worked great!
Profile Design Aero Drink Bracket Aerobar water bottle mount Works great and very easy to install!
Profile Design Aero Drink Bracket Aerobar water bottle mount Worth the trouble? It does work but there is velcro all over the place. I'm not convinced that this is any better than a bottle. Still a little paranoid about poking myself in the eye with the straw. I have to suck hard, like disturbingly hard, to get a mouthful, which is distracting.
Profile Design Stryke Kage Water bottle cage Fragile. I bought two. One broke on the second time I used it.
Profile Design Stryke Kage Water bottle cage Great cage for the value. It grips the bottle well and has had no signs of launching out. Nice styling looks like a much better cage than all the metal ones I looked at.
Profile Design Stryke Kage Water bottle cage Not bad. Very nice for the price and works well
TNI Aeronet Aerobar water bottle holder Not great but it works. Nice that it holds bottle and a little food, but a little to long for my bars. The food section lid is blocked by the water bottle.
XLAB Aero TT Cage and Bottle Water bottle cage The best for overall design. Design is somewhat limited with bicycles since less is always more when performance is the focus. This bottle achieves both - a perfect balance of aesthetic and aerodynamic design
XLAB Carbon Cage Water bottle cage Excellent. Wonderful product, worked flawlessly in gulf coast 1/2 ironman, will get another as soon as possible, recommend them for any application any position on bike!!!
XLAB Carbon Cage Water bottle cage really light and good look. I like them.
XLAB Carbon Cage Water bottle cage best yet
XLAB Flat Wing Aerodynamic hydration and storage kit Great product. Solid construction yet fairly light.  Nice to have the bottles behind the seat.
XLAB Flat Wing Aerodynamic hydration and storage kit I like most of this system. But hate one thing, the straps for the tubes. I can't figure out how to use them. I've snaked the strap through the tube but they still work their way out, and the tire wrenches yeah they're on the road somewhere.
XLAB Flat Wing Aerodynamic hydration and storage kit A great value for the price.  Many of the other XLAB systems are much more expensive and only a few grams of weight savings.  Can safely stow a spare tubular, two CO2 cartridges, two H2O bottle cages, and tire levers. Perfect for TT or Triathlon racing.
XLAB Mini Wing Aerodynamic hydration and storage kit XLAB Mini Wing System is a great purchase if you are looking to add capacity of liquid storage while you ride.  Multiple mounting positions are available with this one design.  Very glad I bought it!
XLAB Mini Wing Aerodynamic hydration and storage kit good price, delivered in timely manner, no issues whatsoever.
XLAB Saddlewing Aerodynamic hydration and storage kit As you'd expect from xlab an excellent piece of kit, much better than the old saddle mounted rack I used to run.
XLAB Saddlewing Aerodynamic hydration and storage kit brilliant

Food Holders

In an effort to assist you in finding a nutrition storage solution that fits your needs, TriVillage.com has accumulated food holder reviews from your fellow cyclists, triathletes and runners.

Brand Name of Product Description Customer Comment
Fuelbelt Gel-Ready Race Number Belt One size fits all race belt. Reflective, Hold 10 gels or pill dispensers AWESOME!!!!! This is the coolest belt I've ever seen! Neat system for putting your number on and the loops for holding gels is a great idea! I did a triathlon this weekend and had several people commenting on the belt! Highly recommended!!
Fuelbelt Gel-Ready Race Number Belt One size fits all race belt. Reflective, Hold 10 gels or pill dispensers Fantastic!!! This is a really practical belt.  Used it for the first time during a half ironman a few weeks ago and it works great.  I hardly noticed that it was around my waist...light weight, no rubbing and makes the gel packs super easy to get to.  Highly recommended.
Fuelbelt Gel-Ready Race Number Belt One size fits all race belt. Reflective, Hold 10 gels or pill dispensers AWESOME!!!!! this product works GREAT!!!!!!  Just put your number on it , leave it in your transition zone and you're ready to go.  Also carries gels very conveniently.   I would highly recommend this product!  No more safety pins!!!  HA!
Fuelbelt Nutritional Bag Bike mountable nutrition pack Perfect. Like all of Fuel Belts other products, perfect.  Might have been better if they had made it zip in the other direction, but it works pretty good as is.  When totally full, holds two Odwalla bars, 2 Gu gel packs, some electrolyte tabs, Motrin, house keys, ID, credit cards, and a few dollars all at the same time.
Fuelbelt Nutritional Bag Bike mountable nutrition pack Love the zipper nutrition bag. This bag is great - I love the zipper - helps keep food dry inside.  The removable plastic liner is great - I can open my shot blocks and dump them in and not have to deal with plastic wrappers while riding.  Wish you had some of the other colors available though.
Fuelbelt Pill Dispenser Pill dispenser Nice. Used it at Gulf Coast Tri this past weekend..fits in your tri-short pockets or a belt with a loop. I used it for endurolytes..if you get water in it they will "stick" together. Nice product and better than the hammer gel coin purse.
Louis Garneau Gel Box Bike mountable nutrition pack Excellent fit on bike, easy open pocket
Louis Garneau Gel Box Bike mountable nutrition pack Great idea! This pouch works wonderfully!! Keeps everything right in front where you need it! I highly recommend it!
Louis Garneau Gel Box Bike mountable nutrition pack Wonderful product! I originally bought this just to use in triathlons, but now I leave it on the bike for all my rides.  Keeps everything right there easy to get to.
SaltStick SaltStick Dispenser Pill dispenser perfect for put saltstick
TNI Aeronet Bike mountable nutrition pack Not great but it works. Nice that it holds bottle and a little food, but a little to long for my bars. The food section lid is blocked by the water bottle.
TNI Bento Box Bike mountable nutrition pack I luv my Bento Box. I am relatively new to the tri. scene.  After seeing a bento box, & not knowing what they were called, I had to do a search on the net.  Glad I found your website.  I bought two.  Thanks
TNI Bento Box Bike mountable nutrition pack I bought 3 boxes, one for myself and two for friends.  We all love them.  They are a great help in our cycling and refueling needs.  Very convenient way to keep gels right at hand!
TNI Bento Box Bike mountable nutrition pack As advertised, the Bento Box fits nicely on my bike, and does not get in the way, even when you drop down into your aerobars.
TNI Bento Box Bike mountable nutrition pack I love the Bento Box.  Great fit on the bike and very convenient.
TNI Bento Box Bike mountable nutrition pack I ride a lot; performance rider; some racing
1. perfect size for holding & accessing a digital camera, a flip, and/or some energy bars
2. fits on both my road and mtb bike; adaptable to varied tubes sizes & shapes
3. fits just behind the stem or just in front of the seat

Improvements: Could use a waterproof top to keep my gear dry in rain. Could use padding on bottom.  Both of these are easy fixes.
TNI Bento Box Bike mountable nutrition pack perfect fit
TNI Energy Belt One size fits all race belt with mesh pocket and gel holders. Reflective. I was a little disappointed that the belt did not have a number tie or button and nothing indicated in the description that I would need to use pins to secure it.  All other functions of the belt worked great.

Gloves

In an effort to assist you with your cycling or running glove selection, TriVillage.com has accumulated glove reviews from your fellow cyclists and runners.

Brand Name of Glove Description Customer Comment
Louis Garneau 2/1 Vital Full-finger Nice gloves. Pros: warm, fit well. Cons: not much padding on the palms
Louis Garneau Air Gel Carbon Glove - Women's Short-finger These are very nice gloves and I would recommend these.  I, however, bought the wrong size.  They appear to run small.  Should have bought a ladies medium or even a large instead of the small.
Louis Garneau Air Stream Short-finger Excellent gloves. Great product to ALL cyclists! The Louis Garneau gloves is very cool!
Louis Garneau Air Stream Flex Short-finger Excellent Glove. Extremely well ventilated, with excellent padding, this glove has been fantastic.  Can't speak for durability as have only had it a few weeks.  Very pleased thus far.
Louis Garneau Magma Full-finger mitt excellent!  perhaps a little bulky but they work great!
Louis Garneau XR Gel - Women's Short-finger Good gloves. The gloves fit well and stretch well over my hand.  I'm glad I ordered the mediums instead of small - my hand is 3 1/4 inches across the knuckles measuring on the palm side.  Gloves perform well.  The padding is sufficient and well located.
Pearl Izumi Attack Short-finger gloves are of excellent quality
Pearl Izumi P.R.O. - Women's Short-finger Not so thrilled. I didn't realize that these gloves don't have adjustable opening... so they are difficult to get in and out of
Pearl Izumi UltraLite Liner Glove Full-finger liner glove do the job!

Headwear

In an effort to assist you with your headwear selection, TriVillage.com has accumulated headwear reviews from your fellow athletes.

Brand Name of Hat Use Customer Comment
Brooks HVAC Cascadia Cold-Weather Well fitting hat. solid, if tight fitting product. Dries fairly fast, did not shrink after washing.
Headsweats CoolMax Classic Bandana Warm-Weather I use these for under my cycling helmet to control perspiration........works well…I bought white and also blue....the blue seems a bit smaller than the white...overall good product
Headsweats CoolMax Classic Bandana Warm-Weather Your headsweat coolmax bandanna is unique.
Headsweats CoolMax Classic Bandana Warm-Weather The most comfortable sweatproof bandanna to use for all outdoor activities.
Headsweats Shorty Coolmax Bandana Warm-Weather Outstanding product. Your headsweat coolmax classic bandanna is, what I've been looking for.
Headsweats Skullcap Cold-Weather/Warm-Weather Wicks away moisture exactly as it's supposed to.  Probably not necessary for short rides (an hour or less) but certainly beneficial on longer adventures.
Headsweats Topless Headband Warm-Weather Not worth money. The product in my opinion is very overpriced for what you are getting.  Should be priced more at $3.95 rather than $11.95 and also should be adjustable.
Louis Garneau Drytex Hat Cold-Weather really does the job. great hat
Louis Garneau Ear Cover Cold-Weather Excellent Choice. This is a great product.  Works great with the cold wind hitting the ears in the winter time.  I highly recommend it!!
Pearl Izumi Aeolus Headband Cold-Weather Product as advertised, delivered promptly in good condition.
Pearl Izumi Microsensor Facemask Cold-Weather It gets the job done extremely well.
Pearl Izumi Microsensor Skull Cap Cold-Weather not for very cold weather! this cap is nice, but it is very thin, like paper thin. It will not keep your head/ears warm in weather below 40+ F
Pearl Izumi Traverse Hat Cold-Weather good running hat
Pearl Izumi Ultra-Lite Cap - Women's Warm-Weather nice caps only problem caps don't come in different sizes caps I received are too big and no use too me I .,wish I was aware of this before I order I am disappointed will not order them again waist of money
Pearl Izumi Ultrasensor Race Lid Warm-Weather Wish this hat had come in a women's size.
Zoot Sports Mesh Hat Warm-Weather Hat is as advertised.  Has a new home on my "favorites" hook.
Zoot Sports Ventilator Cap Warm-Weather Comfy, soft, light. Great hat, very light and comfortable. Excellent buy!

Heart Rate Monitors

In an effort to assist you in finding the perfect heart rate monitor for your needs, TriVillage.com has accumulated hear rate monitor reviews from your fellow atheletes.

Brand Name of Heart Rate Monitor Customer Comment
Garmin Forerunner 205 I have owned this for at least a year and a half.  I really love it.  The features are great once you understand the set-up.  A nice bonus is I use it as a speedo on my "Brick bike" and then use it to time my runs right after the ride (Multi sport feature).
Garmin Forerunner 301 5 start! very good product!
Garmin Forerunner 305 Works like a dream. Still haven't figured everything out, but the bike ride was great with the Garmin. Could see how far I'd gone, heart rate, different times throughout. Amazing technology
Garmin Forerunner 310XT with HRM Just get it! I've had Polars, the Garmin 310xt (mostly a running watch) and this one is fantastic. Great product. Large screen and the battery lasts for 20 hours. Has vibrating alters as well. awesome!
Garmin Forerunner 310XT with HRM This watch is amazing!  It can track so many different things you will never get bored with your training!  I had one issue with the heart rate a couple times showing that I was exercising around 250 bpm!  Other than that it has been a great training aid.  Would highly recommend it!
Garmin Forerunner 310XT with HRM I love this one. Only one piece of equipment for running and biking. You just need to push a button to switch between the sports. No annoying footpod that runs out of batteries at the most inconvenient time. Only downfall, it's still kind of bulky, would not wear it in a TRI race on the swim.
Polar RS200sd Awesome! I had been running for years, and thought a HRM was useless. This watch is great. I went on my first long run and it told me exactly how many miles I was at. I was even able to do the exact mileage rather than cheat myself. It counted my pace, my calories burned, gave me my avg. heart rate zone - highest and lowest zone. It also kept me on track in the target zones I wanted to be in. Others I ran with counted on me for mileage count. It motivated me for sure! I like the storing system in the watch. I can look back at the workouts from the last week and see a lot of things. Its really worth the price!
Polar S410 Greetings, One of the best investments for my health and well-being for the rest of my life!!!  Thank you.
Suunto t3c I was very disappointed with this product.  Suunto has such a great name, but this did not live up to it.  After a month or so of periodic swim workouts it began going crazy.  It would run through screens as if you were holding down a button.  Then the water seeped into the face making it virtually impossible to read it.
Timex Ironman Sleek 150-lap - Fullsize Good features for a runner but I don't like the band for a couple reasons. The first is the little tab it has that catches the end of the band under the loop. It does hold it in place but it is a pain the get it off. In addition, it is just hard to get unlatched, you really have to pull hard and I am worried the band will break sooner or later.
Timex Ironman Sleek 150-lap - Fullsize love the watch
Timex Ironman Sleek 150-lap - Fullsize Although this watch was waterproofing spec., water entered into the watch.
Timex Ironman 30-lap - Midsize Much better than Polar. I replaced a Polar HRM that I should have tried to return two weeks after buying it, since the buttons didn't always work on it.  I am happy to say the buttons on the Timex work perfectly.  I also trust it is water tight, as non-HR Timex's I have had in the past held up well.
Timex Ironman 30-lap - Midsize I love this heart rate monitor. It's the first one I've owned. The display is easy to read. The monitor is easy to set up. I use it all the time!
Timex Ironman Shock Resistant 30-lap - Fullsize great value good watch stands the test of time
Timex Ironman Shock Resistant 30-lap - Midsize very good watch

Hydration Belts, Vests & Packs

In an effort to assist in finding a hydration solution that fits your needs, TriVillage.com has accumulated hydration belt, vest and pack reviews from your fellow athletes.

Brand Name of Product Description Customer Comment
Fuelbelt Crush Hydration belt Good product, it fits well on the small of the back and has very good pocket and a clip for your keys.
Fuelbelt Terminator Hydration belt AAA. Great Product
Hydrapak Big Sur Hydration pack This is a well made backpack. The Fluid Pak inside works! Definitely Recommended
Nathan HPL # 020 Hydration vest Good bladder pack. Fit is good; it is difficult to adjust while running or cycling but stays adjusted very well. The extra pocket is a little on the small side.
Nathan HPL # 020 Hydration vest Light, comfortable, functional. I've been wanting to extend my long runs without drop bottles or carrying another handheld so I did quite a bit of research and bought the HPL 020. This is a terrific product -- it is very light and sits high on the back so it's comfortable (unlike belt level units), it's functional because of its tie-downs and pockets and its 2.0 liter capacity and there is no chafing or sore spots because it's made of a very soft material. I've been using for any run over 1.5 hours.
Nathan HPL #028 Hydration vest I am not a tri-athlete but am a lady with diabetes who runs for fun and a maximum of about 10kms.  However, with diabetes you need to carry a blood glucose meter, sweets, biscuits and other small items just in case of any emergency sugar lows. So I needed something more than the small runner's waist packs on offer.  That's when I discovered the Nathan HPL 028 running vest and knew it would be perfect for me. The running vest is fantastic and I am very pleased with the service I received from Tri-Village too.  So top marks for both the vest and the store.
Nathan SpeedBelt 2 Hydration belt Cool. Great product. It shakes a little, but after you are used to it, you won't run without it.
Nathan SpeedBelt 2 Hydration belt The only problem with this product is that the bottles tend to slide out after you've consumed the beverage.  Can be a pain throughout the remainder of the run.
Nathan SpeedBelt 2 Hydration belt I've used this product for about three years now and love it!
Nathan SpeedBelt 4 Hydration belt Great product. The belt is comfortable to wear and well balanced, even if your liquid supply is not.  The velcro pouches are handy and easily accessible while running.  The water bottles are easy to clean.
Nathan SpeedBelt 4 Hydration belt At last, a belt that is comfortable and does not chafe
Nathan SpeedBelt 4 Hydration belt Great product. I really like this product.  It is comfortable, secure, and doesn't bounce. The bottle are easy to get in and out of the holsters.  I haven't noticed any coming loose during a run. My waist size was in between two sizes and I went with the smaller of the two.  It is a little tight.  Its motivation slim up a bit more but if your waist size doesn't fluctuate that much and you are in between, I would go with the bigger size. Its worth the money.

Brand Name of Product Type Use Customer Comment
Accelerade Accel Gel Gel Electrolyte replacement, Primary source of calories during exercise/competition, Protein source Gel me up Scotty! I have tried a number of brands on the market today and personally I think Accelerade has produced an amazing product that doesn't taste bad nor artificial as some other brands. They produce good energy and the balance between carbs and protein sits well with me.
Accelerade Accel Gel Gel Electrolyte replacement, Primary source of calories during exercise/competition, Protein source It gives me that boost. Accelerade gives me that boost on the days that I workout at the gym before dinner. I used to take Power bars, but filled me up. They are also taped to by bike frame and tucked in my waist belt when running.
Accelerade Accel Gel Gel Electrolyte replacement, Primary source of calories during exercise/competition, Protein source Excellent Pre Race Fuel. I take one pack 15 minutes before each of my sprint tri's and it seems to last me for the entire race.  I think this is a great prerace fuel for the body.  I also supplement it with some hydration products in my water bottle for the biking portion. I don't have the fatigue during the race like I used to before I started using these.

Gu Energy Gel Gel Primary source of calories during exercise/competition, Recovery aid energy, good value great buy
Gu Energy Gel Gel Primary source of calories during exercise/competition, Recovery aid Just GU. Simple and to the point. GU is just what the name implies a simple product that provides you the needed kick during that long run
Gu GU2O Drink Electrolyte replacement, Primary source of calories during exercise/competition Mix it before you put it in your water bottle or camelbak. Pour the mix into the water and stir. Don't pour water on the mix, it will clump together and be difficult to mix. However, I do feel better after drinking it when compared to Gatorade which is the point of the drink.
Hammer Nutrition Endurolytes Caplet/Capsule Electrolyte replacement a must. I call it insurance. Very consistent...caplets can fall apart quickly for digestion when wet.
Hammer Nutrition Endurolytes Caplet/Capsule Electrolyte replacement Great when you are cramping! I've had good luck with these, especially on the run following a long bike ride.  Never any issues with taking as many as three at a time- and I could never stomach the old "salt tablets" during 2-a-day football practices in high school..
Hammer Nutrition Endurolytes Caplet/Capsule Electrolyte replacement Always a good product, both taking every hr. or mixing right into drink
Hammer Nutrition Endurolytes Caplet/Capsule Electrolyte replacement Must Have. Hammer Nutrition Hammer Gel Gel Primary source of calories during exercise/competition As said, its much less thick than GU. I mix it with water sometimes and have it as a drink. Hammer Nutrition HEED Sports Drink Drink Electrolyte Replacement/Partial source of calories during exercise/competition It was ok taste was very mild I mixed it with some Gatorade for flavor. Nutrition was awesome though, never cramped and never crashed
Hammer Nutrition Perpetuem Drink Primary source of calories during exercise/competition Tough at first! Better now. I had a hard time choking this stuff down first couple of rides- I was used to the citrusy Citomax products.  This stuff was like orange/vanilla flavored milk!  I've had no stomach issues at all, and three rides later, I was hooked.

Fuelbelt Gel-Ready Race Number Belt One size fits all, Reflective, Hold 10 gels or pill dispensers AWESOME!!!!! This is the coolest belt I've ever seen! Neat system for putting your number on and the loops for holding gels is a great idea! I did a triathlon this weekend and had several people commenting on the belt! Highly recommended!!
Fuelbelt Gel-Ready Race Number Belt One size fits all, Reflective, Hold 10 gels or pill dispensers Fantastic!!! This is a really practical belt.  Used it for the first time during a half ironman a few weeks ago and it works great.  I hardly noticed that it was around my waist...light weight, no rubbing and makes the gel packs super easy to get to.  Highly recommended.
Fuelbelt Gel-Ready Race Number Belt One size fits all, Reflective, Hold 10 gels or pill dispensers AWESOME!!!!! this product works GREAT!!!!!!  Just put your number on it , leave it in your transition zone and you're ready to go.  Also carries gels very conveniently.   I would highly recommend this product!  No more safety pins!!!  HA!
Fuelbelt Reflective Race Number Belt One size fits all, Reflective Love it! MUCH easier to use than traditional snap fastener belts.  Sturdier & better looking, too. Only thing I don't like is that (as with all race belts) the strap hangs way over when tightened b/c I have a small waist.
TYR Race Belt One size fits all Good belt. Already used in a few events. Very well made and durable. I recommend.
TYR Race Belt One size fits all Good product. Definitely beats safety  pins, though the snaps are a little hard to get on and off.
TYR Race Belt One size fits all Works fine. Comfortable. Clip is good quality. The buttons that hold the race number are quite tight, so you need to be careful not to break a nail when taking off - best to push it off from the side. Recommended.
TYR Race Belt One size fits all Typical belt. Are there really any differences in the type of race belt you have? It worked fine.
TYR Race Belt One size fits all The best works just fine. However, I did not realize it would be labeled with store name on it. I wish it was plain.
TYR Race Belt One size fits all Nothing fancy but gets the job done. Exactly what I was looking for.
TYR Race Belt One size fits all The belt fit great and was easy to put on. I like using this a lot better then pinning it on my shirt or shorts.

Running Shoes

In an effort to assist you with your running shoe selection, TriVillage.com as accumulated the following information (gender, height, weight, foot type, favorite shoe, and comments about these shoes) which will allow runners with similar characteristics to select a suitable shoe. Below is a summary sorted by gender and then shoe brand.

Gender Hgt Wgt Foot Type Favorite Shoe Comparable Shoe Customer Comment
M   5'8"  138 Flat    Mizuno Wave Elixir 5  Brooks Racer ST series, Pearl Izumi Streak, Saucony Fastwitch series  Great running shoe, light weight, low/ medium stability.
F   5'4"  125 Flat, wide  Asics DS Trainer  Brooks Racer ST series, Mizuno Wave Elixir, Pearl Izumi Streak My favorite running shoe of late has been the Asics DS Trainer. I like it because it does not try to give me an arch (I have flat feet and really do not want to run in something with an arch...you may disagree with this but this is the route I am going). I have flat feet and there is plenty of breathing room. It is still lightweight but gives me enough support for the long runs. I used to run in Saucony Type A's until they got rid of them. Those were great but probably more of a racing shoe or short distance shoe...not ideal for marathon running or IM training...unless you weigh 100 lbs.
5'7"  165 Flat, wide  Asics GT-2150  Mizuno Wave Inspire, Brooks Adrenaline GTS, Saucony ProGrid Omni  The only shoe I tried that didn't give me pain in my achilles tendion after about 100 miles.
5'4"  125 High Arch  Pearl Izumi SyncroFloat III Brooks Glycerin, Mizuno Wave Creation, Saucony ProGrid Triumph  Great shoe for a high arch. Completed my first half-marathon with these; all-around good shoe for training miles, and also a good shoe for the day of the race. Added bonus: on top of being a good, functional shoe, it's also a more attractive running shoe in comparison to others offered for women.
5'11"  200 High Arch, wide  Asics Nimbus  Brooks Glycerin, Mizuno Wave Creation, Saucony ProGrid Triumph  Running exclusively in Acsics Nimbus for many mango seasons. The only shoe that my foot fits into comfortably, no break-in necessary, average durability - they are like lacing up and running on clouds!
5'3"  118 Low Arch  Brooks Adrenaline GTS 9  Mizuno Wave Inspire, Saucony ProGrid Omni  The shoes offer the stability that I need and still have the cushion to be comfortable, for my long runs are the best I also used other pair for short runs just as a test just in case they change the Adrenaline too much.
5'7"  160 Low Arch  Mizuno Wave Elixir 5  Brooks Racer ST series, Pearl Izumi Streak, Saucony Fastwitch series  Great lightweight shoe for fast training runs or races from 5k to a marathon. Even though it's super light, it still has enough sole to absorb impact.
6'0"  205 Low Arch  Newton Gravity/Pearl Izumi SyncroFloat  Brooks Racer ST series, Saucony Fastwitch, Zoot Ultra Race series  I ran in Pearls for years before switching to Newtons. The Pearls always felt great, gave me no foot issues, and held up very well. I would recommend them to anyone and still wear them today on a regular basis. I also like the Newtown for the forefoot accuators. I've found that for my size that forefoot running is a little easier on my joints. I've gotten great mileage out of my Newtons.
6'0"  175 Low arch, wide  Adidas Adistar Adios / Adidas Boston  Brooks Racer ST series, Mizuno Wave Elixir, Pearl Izumi Streak, Saucony Fastwitch the Adidas Boston is my shoe for long distance training. These shoes last a long time and have a lot of cushion and still have low weight. My Adios are bright yellow with black strips, these shoes are bright and fast. These shoes are great for the 13.1 and 26.2. These shoes are very light.
5'2"  130 Normal Arch  Asics GT-2150  Mizuno Wave Inspire, Brooks Adrenaline GTS, Saucony ProGrid Omni  I like them because they're not heavy at all, and supply the right cushioning. I had to use insoles, but they're perfect with them!
5'5"  124 Normal Arch  Mizuno Wave Rider  Brooks Defyance, Saucony ProGrid Ride, Pearl Izumi Float
5'8"  135 Normal Arch  Newton Gravity    Brooks Racer ST series, Saucony Fastwitch, Zoot Ultra Race series  I am transforming into a more mid/fore foot runner. While I do this I am using the Newtons. I find them to be extremely comfortable and light weight. I wear them for all races now...they make me faster:-)
5'10"  180 Normal Arch  Asics Gel Kayano  Brooks Trance, Mizuno Wave Nirvana, Saucony Hurricane  Most comfortable shoe on the market for a wider-than-average foot
6'3"  202 Normal Arch  Asics Gel Kayano  Brooks Trance, Mizuno Wave Nirvana, Saucony Hurricane
5'10"  180 Normal Arch  Asics Gel Nimbus  Brooks Glycerin, Mizuno Wave Creation, Saucony ProGrid Triumph  Favorite Shoe Asics gel-nimbus: I have tried many shoes for long disctances and love the nimbus. For triathlons I like the Zoot tri shoes. I bought mine 3 years ago and feel they are great for sprints and Olympic races. No socks needed, fast to slide on and no laces to tie.
5'11"  162 Normal Arch  Asics GT-2150 / Mizuno Wave Elixir 5 Mizuno Wave Inspire, Brooks Adrenaline GTS, Saucony ProGrid Omni  used to run on Mizuno Wave Riders for over 6 years and switched to Asics GT 2150 which provides a more stable support for my slight pronation and gait type. It is an excellent training shoe at 12 oz with the right amount of cushioning without getting bulky or heavy, even used it for racing. Well supportive sole on the arch preventing injuries to pronators. Equivalent on the Mizuno line of support shoes are the Inspire 6 or Nexus 4 which provides the same characteristics as Asics GT 2150, in my opinion, that is. For a lighter version, I race on Mizuno Elixir 5 at 9.4 oz. Low profile, perfect blend of support and cushioning, flexibility and lightweight package.
5'9"  175 Normal Arch  Asics Nimbus  Brooks Glycerin, Mizuno Wave Creation, Saucony ProGrid Triumph  Have been using the Nimbus for many years, from inception to the 11th model, and have always felt comfortable with them.
6'2"  192 Normal Arch  Asics Nimbus  Brooks Glycerin, Mizuno Wave Creation, Saucony ProGrid Triumph Never had an issue running any distance with this shoe.
6'1"  196 Normal Arch  Brooks Adrenaline GTS 9  Mizuno Wave Inspire, Saucony ProGrid Omni  Perfect balance for me between motion control and weight. I need a lot of motion control but I don't want to feel like I am carrying bricks on my feet. Construction of the top/side of the shoe on the outside edge at the widest point is crucial for me and these are the most comfortable there. I also found these last longer than the other motion-control shoes I've tested over last ten years. Have experimented with several in the Brooks line (Beast, Trance, Adrenaline) and several competitors, and keep coming back to Adrenaline.
5'8"  160 Normal Arch  Brooks Adrenaline GTS 9  Mizuno Wave Inspire, Saucony ProGrid Omni  The only running shoes I wear
5'8"  170 Normal Arch  Brooks Adrenaline GTS 9  Mizuno Wave Inspire, Saucony ProGrid Omni  have to admit that i do not want to like this shoe because it is heavier than most. Still, i have tried several others and I keep going back. It is a great training shoe that seems to last much longer than any other shoe on the market. And its the only shoe that has never given be any type of blister. I am currently trying to find a neutral shoe that is its equivalent but nothing seems to match.
6'0"  185 Normal Arch  Brooks Trance 7  Mizuno Wave Nirvana, Saucony Hurricane  I run 4 miles a day and these shoes are like walking on air! Love love love them!
6'2"  210 Normal Arch  New Balance 700  Brooks Trance, Mizuno Wave Nirvana, Saucony Hurricane  First shoe I tried when I discovered how much of a difference the shoe makes on long distances. I've run every race in NB and they have worked well for me. Tried other brands but I always go back to my proven shoe.
5'8"  189 Normal Arch  Newton Gravity / K-Swiss K-Ona  Brooks T Racer series, Saucony Grid Type A, Zoot Ultra Race series  It had helped me improved my running by not dragging my foot since they are very light and confortable. It makes me feel like I am running faster.
6'3"  192 Normal Arch  Newton Gravity/Nike 5.0  Broo
